We use baking as a practical, creative, and therapeutic tool to take women on a journey toward employability and entrepreneurship. Through our tailored programs, participants learn not only how to bake but also develop transferable skills that open doors to the professional world.
From our hands-on baking courses to work experience in our café, and paid employment within our bakery, Luminary is designed to holistically support women as they work toward independence and brighter futures.
Meeting women experiencing extreme poverty, disadvantage, and violence was the inspiration for starting Luminary.
Too often, violence and trauma isolate us from the community, when that is the very thing we need the most. Every woman has shown immense courage to survive her circumstances alone, but it is only when others embrace her that she can really start to fulfil her potential. Luminary is more than a bakery; it is a community and a sign of hope for so many.

What is a Social Enterprise?
A social enterprise is a business with purpose, where profits are reinvested into a mission-driven cause. At Luminary, this means that every cake we sell helps fund life-changing opportunities for women.
Our unique structure consists of Luminary Limited, a registered charity, and Luminary Bakery Limited, a business that operates commercially while directly supporting the charity’s goals. Together, they work in harmony to create sustainable change.
Luminary Limited runs our Employability Support Programme, offering training, mentoring, and trauma-informed guidance to women on their journey to independence.
Luminary Bakery Limited provides employment opportunities, wholesale and retail bakery operations, and is working toward generating sustainable income to fund the charity.
